Alexandra parkrun – Saturday 6th September

On Saturday 6th September, members of The Range Medical Centre team and our Patient Participation Group came together at Alexandra parkrun for a brilliant morning of fresh air, movement and community spirit.
This was something the PPG had put a lot of planning in to pull off, as part of its wider aim to encourage healthier lifestyles and create more opportunities for patients and staff to connect outside of the usual practice setting. Some of our PPG members were involved in the run itself and also work alongside the parkrun team, which made the event feel even more special and community-led.
The morning was full of energy and positivity. It was lovely to see patients, practice staff and local residents all coming together in such a relaxed and friendly environment. Events like this are a great reminder that improving health does not always have to begin in a consultation room — sometimes it starts with a walk, a run, a chat in the park, and feeling part of something supportive.
It was especially nice for patients to meet the doctors and surgery staff outside of the practice and spend time together in a completely different setting. A few of the GPs also brought their families and children along, which added to the warm and family-friendly atmosphere of the day.
One of the most encouraging things we heard afterwards was that many patients had not even known Alexandra parkrun existed before the event. Since then, some have gone on to attend regularly, which is exactly the kind of lasting, positive impact we hope to help create through PPG activities.
Overall, it was a really enjoyable morning and a wonderful example of what can happen when patients, staff and the local community come together to support health and wellbeing in a simple, welcoming and enjoyable way.
